Turkmen boxers win gold and silver medals at IV Islamic Solidarity Games

The boxing finals were the main sport events of the seventh day of IV Islamic Solidarity Games, which gathered more than 3000 athletes from 57 countries in the capital of Azerbaijan. During the matches, the collection of our country was supplemented by gold and silver medals. One bronze medal was won in this sport on the day before. The Greco – Roman style wrestler got another bronze medal.
Arslanbek Achilov competing in the weight category up to 81 kg is a winner of the gold. In the final match, he confidently won the boxer from Azerbaijan. This award put our national team up in the total team count.
Silver medal was won in the weight category up to 59 kg where our sportsman Yakub Meredov was fighting against Uzbek boxer A. Sharahmatov. The match went under high speed and equal fight but the referees gave preference to Uzbek boxer what put our sportsman to the second position, which is also good achievement as this is the first medal won by Yakub in such large international competitions. On his way to the final, Y. Meredov beat Jafar Al Sudani from Iraq and Mohammad Alwadi from Jordan.
And finally, anther bronze medal was won by Shermat Permanov competing in classic wrestling in the weight category up to 75 kg. During the fights, Bronze winner of XVII Asian Games 2014 in Incheon (the Republic of Korea) had two victories over A. Rehman from Pakistan and R. Halil from Palestine.
Thus, Turkmen national team has 11 medals – two gold, four silver and five bronze. It took our team to the 12th place in total team count.
Today, the basketball tournament (3X3 format) started in the programme of the Games where our men and women teams of our country would compete.
On May 19, freestyle wrestlers will have to fight at the sport ground of Geydar Aliyev Sport Complex and masters of the wushu will join them the day after.
