The President of Turkmenistan meets with the Foreign Minister of India

President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov met with the State Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of India Mobashar Javed Akbar who arrived in Turkmenistan as a head of representative delegation of his country for the participation in coming ceremonies. 

Having expressed the gratitude for warm and cordial welcome, high ranking guest conveyed the greetings and best wishes of the leaders of the Republic of India to the Head of the State and to all Turkmen people. 

Having addressed return greetings to the highest officials of friendly state, the President of Turkmenistan highlighted that our nations are connected by historical, spiritual and cultural roots that go far to the centuries. India has always been and remains to be important partner of our country, to cooperation with which special attention is paid. 

Share of the opinions on priority subjects of interstate cooperation took place during the conversation. In this context, the role of high-level meetings in the development of traditional friendly relations between the countries as well as in the issues of political and diplomatic collaboration including under international organizations has been mentioned. 

Trade and economic sphere, transport and communication, health protection, high technologies, textile industry and number of other spheres have been mentioned among topical directions of the partnership. In this regard, the importance of Interstate Turkmen – Indian Commission of trade, economic, scientific and technology cooperation has been highlighted. In addition, the necessity of continuation of the practice of bilateral meetings on different levels, which allows defining priority vectors of cooperation that is built on equality and mutual benefits, has been mentioned. 

Perspectives of the cooperation in fuel and energy sector, where special place is allocated to the realization of the project of construction of Turkmenistan – Afghanistan – Pakistan – India gas pipeline, were separate subject of discussion. 

Building of transnational gas main is economically beneficial for all participants of this project, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov said, having highlighted that TAPI is to make considerable contribution to stable social and economic development of the states in Asian region and generally to support the consolidation of global energy security. 

Mabashar Javed Akbar highlighted keen interest of his country in the supplies of Turkmen natural gas what was conditioned by growing requirements of intensively developing Indian economy in energy carriers. 

Having noted that implementation of TAPI project would support the consolidation of Turkmen – Indian cooperation that is built on the principles of constructive partnership and long terms, Turkmen leader and his guest confirmed mutual intent to accelerate the realization of this project and the willingness to take all necessary measures for these purposes. 

Having touched upon the subject of the partnership in transport and communication sphere, the State Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of India highlighted the importance of the projects of construction of railway corridors initiated by our country, particularly Serhetabat – Turgundy railroad that is planned to be opened as well as the launch of construction of international power and fibre optic lines that bring the progress to entire region. 

In addition, the role of traditional cultural and humanitarian contacts in the consolidation of friendly and trustful relations of both nations has been highlighted.
