The President of Turkmenistan sums up the outcomes of the talks in Dushanbe

At the end of the document signing ceremony, the Heads of two states addressed the representatives of mass media. 

Speaking to the press, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov noted with delight the efficiency of the negotiations, during which the sides discussed the condition of bilateral relations, shared the opinions on number of international issues that present mutual interest. Large package of documents defining Turkmen – Tajik cooperation in important directions has been signed. 

Turkmen leader emphasized that high-level meeting confirmed mutual intent and willingness of the sides to further steadfast consolidation of the partnership in different spheres and the presence of real opportunities of both sides for this. 

Important role in negotiations was given to consolidation of peace, stability and security. The agreement on close cooperation in bilateral format and under international organizations, first of all under the United Nations, has been achieved. This related to the participation in solution of such topical issues as counteracting against international terrorism, ideological and religious extremism, transboundary organized crime and illegal drugs trafficking. 

Special attention has been paid to consolidation of peace and security in the Central Asia and neighbouring regions, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov continued. Today, cooperation and close partnership between Turkmenistan and Tajikistan serve as key component of this process. The positions of our countries are invariable there – we stand for the establishment of efficient and solid mechanisms, which would be able to provide peaceful and stable development of the Central Asia turning it to the space of fruitful international cooperation. Perspective of rapid economic development and modernization of the countries of our region, turning into solid link of strategic stability in the continent, successful integration to the world economy would be able only on such basis, the Head of Turkmenistan said. 

Relying upon the proximity of the approaches to solution of actual issues of regional security, both countries stand for active international support of Afghanistan and assistance in its efficient integration to regional and international economic processes, particularly in such important spheres as energy and transport, Turkmen leader highlighted. Humanitarian component, assistance in training of qualified personnel for different branches of economy and social sphere are necessary aspects of the support of Afghan people. In this context, the importance of the VII Conference of Regional Economic Cooperation for Afghanistan (RECCA-VII), which is to be held in Ashgabat on November 14 – 15, has been highlighted. 

President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov emphasized that besides the matters of peace and security, Turkmenistan and Tajikistan would continue coordination of joint efforts in such important direction of global agenda as sustainable development and its components like energy security, development of international transport and transit communication and climate change. 

The sides have started the construction of railway corridor Turkmenistan – Afghanistan – Tajikistan in transport sphere. During the talks, frim resolution of two countries to complete this project has been confirmed, Turkmen leader stated. 

Having outlined energy branch as perspective direction of cooperation, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov informed that taking into account new energy facilities commissioned in Lebap and Mary Velayat of Turkmenistan, our country is willing to supply the energy by transit via Afghanistan to Tajikistan in autumn and winter period shall Tajik side express its interest. 

Assessing the perspectives of cooperation in energy sphere, the sides noted international significance of the session of the Energy Charter Conference chaired by Turkmenistan this year, which is to be held in Ashgabat on November 28 – 29. 

Speaking of the matters of trade and economic cooperation included to the agenda of current meeting, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov stated that our countries are single in the opinion on the necessity of intensification of cooperation in this sphere. 

Turkmen leader also highlighted that agreement on activation of cultural and humanitarian cooperation and creation of the conditions for wide contacts of the citizens of two countries has been achieved during the negotiations. 

Addressing the representatives of mass media, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov said that Tajikistan, relations with which are built for long-term perspective, is important partner. Equality, mutual respect, openness and trust are distinctive features of bilateral cooperation. 

In their relations, Turkmenistan and Tajikistan rest upon rich historical experience and on understanding of modern realities, presence of huge potential of partnership. We are going to use it maximally realizing that close versatile cooperation between Turkmenistan and Tajikistan meets fundamental interests of two countries, makes positive effect on the course of regional and international processes, Turkmen leader highlighted, having addressed wishes of peace, prosperity and success to all Tajikistan citizens.
