President Gurbanguly Berdymuhamedov makes a tour of the Olympic Complex

President Gurbanguly Berdymuhamedov has made a tour of the capital’s Olympic Complex to inspect the facilities of the major venue for the 5th Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games, and to tackle other organizational issues relating to preparations for the grand sporting event in September. 

At the entrance to the Olympic Complex, President Gurbanguly Berdymuhamedov was welcomed by the Mejlis Chairperson, Cabinet Deputies Chairman, leaders of military and law enforcement agencies, the Executive Committee of the 5th Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games, Ashgabat city’s khyakim, and CEO of “Polimeks”, the Turkish company, which has built the unique facility. 

While on the get-acquainted tour, the head of state has noted that the Olympic Complex is going to be the capital’s pride and its distinctive landmark. Therefore, it is important to harmoniously blend the style of the large sports complex in with Ashgabat’s architectural style. 

The President of Turkmenistan examined the entrance to a VIP area, and visited VIP lounges which boast a high standard of comfort. A balcony offers a spectacular view of the 45,000-seat stadium. Its premises have everything necessary to hold business meetings and talks. 

After examining the progress of construction works and finishing operations (which are in the final stage) at the stadium, the Turkmen leader has highlighted that the right blend of peculiar features of the national art of building and modern solutions is the key principle in the building’s appearance. The head of state commissioned to keep rigid control over the facilities and to ensure that they meet in full international standards and requirements, and gave a number of specific instructions to the head of the building company. 

The head of state was offered to become familiar with samples of uniform and formal attire to be worn by specialists, engaged in the organization of events at the 2017 Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games. Designers creatively used folk patterns and elements of the Turkmen national costume to design the beautiful attire for formal occasions. 

President Gurbanguly Berdymuhamedov emphasized that uniform for formal ceremonies is an essential component, which plays an instrumental role in creating the first impressions about the country. Guests to our country should be offered insights into indigenous traditions, rites, their meaning, and national culture to promote friendship among the nations, mutual respect and peace in the world – that is an important spiritual part of our massive “Ashgabat-2017” Project, the head of state stressed. 

Then, President Gurbanguly Berdymuhamedov convened a working meeting. Prior to it, meeting participants watched a film about the planned opening and closing ceremonies of the 5th Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games and sporting events. 

In the course of the meeting, senior officials made reports on the efforts made to prepare solemn, sports and cultural events of the 2017 Asian Games. Discussion also focused on the efficient organization of the training process and competitions to take place at the Games, their information support and extensive media coverage, and other tasks envisaged by the Master Plan for the 5th Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games.
