Meetings of the delegation of Turkmenistan led by the Minister of Foreign Affairs R.Meredov were held in Islamabad

On October 16, 2024, a meeting was held between the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov and the President of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan Asif Ali Zardari.

During the meeting, a wide range of issues of Turkmen-Pakistani cooperation were discussed in the context of the implementation of previously reached agreements and long-term plans for the future.

One of the key vectors of cooperation was the further development of economic partnership, where there is solid potential for increasing trade volumes and diversifying mutually beneficial ties.

It was stated that great importance is also attached to intensifying productive partnerships in such areas as energy and transport. In this context, the importance of strengthening joint activities in the implementation of the Turkmenistan – Afghanistan – Pakistan – India (TAPI) gas pipeline and the Turkmenistan – Afghanistan – Pakistan (TAP) power transmission line projects was emphasized.

Particular attention was paid to completing the work on preparing bilateral documents aimed at implementing joint projects in the fields of energy and transport.

During the meeting, Asif Ali Zardari expressed to the President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov and the National Leader of the Turkmen people, Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov his respect and gratitude for their personal contribution to the development of friendship and fraternal relations between Turkmenistan and Pakistan.

On the same day, as part of the visit of the delegation of Turkmenistan to Pakistan, a meeting was held between the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov and the Federal Minister of Energy of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan Musadiq Masood Malik.

During the meeting, the parties discussed issues of cooperation in the energy sector, in particular, projects for the construction of the Turkmenistan - Afghanistan - Pakistan - India (TAPI) gas pipeline and the Turkmenistan - Afghanistan - Pakistan (TAP) power transmission line.

In this context, the parties emphasized the strategic importance of large-scale projects in strengthening regional ties, promoting economic growth and meeting the energy needs of participating countries.

It was noted that the TAP power transmission line and the TAPI gas pipeline would play a significant role in meeting Pakistan's industrial electricity needs.

Emphasis was placed on the importance of completing the work on preparing bilateral documents that will be used for the practical implementation of projects. It was also proposed to develop a Roadmap for joint actions of the Turkmen and Pakistani sides in the energy sector.

The parties agreed to maintain regular contacts in order to implement joint projects.
