Developments of Turkmen scientists increase the efficiency of hydrocarbons production

For years of its work, the Institute of Oil and Gas of the State Concern “Turkmengas” has gained good experience of the development of hydrocarbon deposits. Specialists of the Institute prepared scientific and practical recommendations on successful geological works and increase of oil and gas reserves. Dozens of the developments on acceleration of geological surveys and improvement of gas production technology and well drilling were implemented into operation.
All gas and condensate deposits of Turkmenistan are developed according to the projects of Turkmen scientists and specialists. These deposits are Devetabad, Galkynysh, Malay, 10 Years of Independence, Yolguyi, Bagaja and many other. One of the actual objectives is the intensification of drilling processes, increase of production volumes of hydrocarbons on existing and recently explored gas fields, which successful development is mainly depends upon the application of progressive technologies of opening of productive horizons.
Specialists of the drilling department of the Institute of Natural Gas of the State Concern “Turkmengas” developed recommendations for construction of production wells at giant Galkynysh deposit, where deep drilling is carried out under difficult geological conditions like high reservoir pressure, great number of incompatible zones, content of sour gases in production part of the well and other. New design allowing increasing the efficiency of drilling, reliability and durability of the facility as well as opportunity to provide high output of the well were laid in construction project of production boreholes.
Compositions of drilling fluids with lubricating, inhibitory and bridging features, high thermal and salinity resistance to polymineral aggression are developed for effective drilling in difficult mountain geological conditions. One of the innovations of the laboratory, lubricating agent for drilling mud, covered by temporary patent, was applied in Elakly and Mydar fields, which resulted in considerable reduction of well construction cost.
Development of technological fluids for problems prevention in borehole zone during work-over is one of the actual goals. Low-density fluid with optimal technological characteristics for use on the fields with low reservoir pressure was made in the laboratory. These low-mud content solutions were used by gas producers during the opening of productive layers of around ten production boreholes. As the result, additional increase of gas output was received at Dovletabad field from almost every well.
The laboratory also developed emulsive, foamed, polymeric fluids with high viscosity and reduced density for the work-over of the wells in low pressure reservoirs. These fluids have been used for several years at the fields of “Marygazdobycha” and “Dovletabatgazdobycha”. Low-mud content polymeric emulsions are protected by Turkmenistan patents.
Various agents based on local materials and industrial wastes like used oil and fat acids are being added to typical and alternative recipes of drilling fluids for improvement of their lubrication characteristics. Use of such fluids is very perspective and cost effective. They control the filtration, prevent the absorption of the fluids, talus and collapse, mudding of the formation and do not have negative effect on of filtration ability of the collector.
Specialists of the laboratory developed cementing fluids, which application would reduce the requirement in import of chemical agents without loss of quality of plugging solutions. According to the scientists’ recommendations, the production of Kelyata Cement Plant is used as insulation material in wells casing - the process water as hardening liquid, dextrin and potassium bichromate as agents and silica sand as thermal resistance material.
Besides, the laboratory developed the composition of buffering fluids for separation of drilling and plugging muds and removal of mud crust from the walls of the well.
The scientists proposed to use mud-based solution prepared from local chunky clay with use of process and sea water as a drilling fluid. Implementation of sulphate sodium fluid increase the durability of the borehole in muddy rocks and excludes the application of special chemical agents imported from abroad.
