Best Young Scientists Receive Certificates of Honor and Prizes from Head of State

On the occasion of Science Day, an awards ceremony has been held in a conference hall at Magtymguly Turkmen State University to honor the Young Scientists Competition winners. The contest was co-organized by the Academy of Sciences and the Central Council of the Magtymguly Youth Organization.

Established by President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, the annual showcase of research projects serves to advance Turkmen science, to promote young scientists’ research activities and to increase their contribution to the national economy. The 2015-2020 State Program of Youth Policy in Turkmenistan also prioritizes these tasks.

Opened in cooperation with the Academy of Sciences and the Youth Organization, the Center of Young Scientists is represented at the country’s higher education institutions by Councils of Young Scientists. These scientific-educational bodies aim to promote and support students’ initiatives, to encourage their participation in international forums and meetings, including those taking place abroad, and to foster youth engagement in joint projects.

The intellectual competition is open to young specialists of research institutes, production associations, scientific-technical enterprises, university teachers and students, students of vocational schools, and people with varied professional background, who are keenly interested in active scientific research.

This year, 500-plus young scientists have presented their projects and theoretical research in the following fields of science: nanotechnology, biotechnology, computer technology, material development, energy, molecular biology, agriculture, ecology and genetics, information and communications systems, technologies for the manufacture of medicines and pharmaceutical products, innovation economy, and the humanities.

Expert judges have chosen 36 winners, assessing the presented projects on the extent to which they met the following criteria: their theoretical importance, scientific novelty, present-day value, and worthiness for practical implementation.

Government members, senior officials of ministries and government agencies, higher education establishments, scientists well known in our country and beyond, representatives of public organizations, teaching staff and students of higher educational institutions, doctoral candidates and post-graduate students of the Academy of Sciences were among those attending the ceremony. Participants in the International Scientific Forum were the guests of honor at the event.

The attendees enthusiastically welcomed President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov’s Address to the contest winners, which was read during the ceremony. Certificates of honor and valuable prizes were awarded to the winners on behalf of President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov.

An exhibition, organized in the University’s entrance hall, showcases scientific and creative achievements of young people. It includes monographs and collections of scientific works, projects and models of various devices and inventions in the field of renewable sources of energy, innovative technologies for the production of chemicals, building materials, pharmaceutical products, among others.

Prepared by the Central Council of the Magtymguly Youth Organization, a new issue of the specialized collection of articles will offers insights into award-winning projects of this year’s intellectual competition. The publication annually presents a wide spectrum of research studies and practical solutions worked out by talented youth.

A festive concert, featuring performances by musical ensembles from our country’s higher education institutions, was held after the ceremony.
