Turkmenistan solemnly celebrated Day of national flag

Today Turkmenistan celebrates Day of national flag. The major festive actions passed in the Turkmen capital where the flower laying ceremony at the Main Flag of the country took place.

The national flag of Turkmenistan was approved a quarter of the century back - on February 19, 1992. Within twenty five years our country under the green banner makes its modern history, confidently goes on the path of well-being and progress, reaching high boundaries of independent development.

This year the holiday coincided with one more significant event symbolising a major landmark in the life of the country. During the national elections which took place on February 12, the leader of nation of Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov was again elected head of the state. At the ceremony of inauguration which took place on February 17, following national traditions, the President of Turkmenistan took an oath of allegiance to the fatherland and people and paid a tribute of respect to the national flag.

The festively decorated area located in the southern part of the capital where one of the highest in the world - a 133-metre flagstaff on which the Main flag of Turkmenistan flutters is established, became the main venue for major celebrations today. The flower laying ceremony in honour of Day of the national flag here took place. Members of the government, heads of ministries and departments, the administration of the capital, heads of diplomatic representatives and missions accredited to our country and ambassadors of Turkmenistan to foreign countries, honourable elders, the youth, representatives of public organisations, mass media, foreign businessmen working in our country, numerous citizens of Ashgabat took part in it.

In the solemn conditions at the foot of a huge flagstaff on which the main flag of Turkmenistan proudly flutters, on behalf of President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov a magnificent garland of flowers was laid. Then bunches of flowers were laid by all the gathered.

Today all over the country there passed festive events in honour of Day of the national flag of Turkmenistan. Ideas and opinions which were embodied in the country’s flag, urged to cultivate in Turkmen nationals self-esteem, to unite them and provide with creative energy for disclosing of human potential the realisation of which is directed to the achievement of both personal success, and common and national purposes. Therefore this symbol of statehood occupied a special place in consciousness of people, our contemporaries, symbolising itself indestructible link between historical roots and the great future of the fatherland which is striving for peace, prosperity and progress.

With obtaining of the status of permanent neutrality by the country in 1995 the green banner was for ever decorated with two intertwining olive branches personifying centuries-old traditions of peaceful disposition of our people. This event became one more occasion for our pride of the flag and fatherland. Today the national flag of Turkmenistan which has become an image of humanism and peaceful disposition of our country, flies in front of the United Nations headquarters, in many states of the world, and also everywhere in Turkmen cities and villages.

Thanks to the foreign policy of President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov to strengthen the constructive regional and international cooperation for common interest, safety and sustainable development, Turkmenistan has turned into the centre of peace making and friendship. Adoption of the Resolution on declaration of December 12 as International Day of Neutrality at the 71st session of the UN General Assembly attested to the appreciation and comprehensive support of our policy by the world community.
