The delegation of Turkmenistan is participating in the 20th session of the UNESCO Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage
On December 8, 2025, the opening ceremony of the 20th session of the UNESCO Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage was held in New Delhi, India.
The Director-General of UNESCO, Khaled Ahmed El-Enany, the Minister of External Affairs and the Minister of Culture of the Republic of India addressed the event.
The session is attended by representatives of 181 states and non-governmental organizations that are parties to the UNESCO Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage, including the delegation of Turkmenistan headed by Alexander Amanov, Deputy Minister of Education of the country.
During the session, the UNESCO Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage will consider a total of 66 nominations submitted by Member States for inscription on the various lists under the Convention. Of these, 54 were nominated for inscription on the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, 11 for the List of Intangible Cultural Heritage in Need of Urgent Safeguarding, and one for the Register of Good Safeguarding Practices.
Among these, the national nomination "Traditions of Breeding Turkmen Alabai Dogs," submitted by Turkmenistan, is scheduled for consideration.
The 20th session of the UNESCO Intergovernmental Committee on Intangible Cultural Heritage will run until December 13 of this year.
